We are envisaging a professional figure able to fit between the public policies and responses from the bottom, capable of facing the speed of the current urban phenomena using new operational tools and to contaminate different kind of knowledge.
A figure that stands across arts and architecture, intelligent and conscious in using different languages, eager to explore territories and inhabit places, ready to invent new clients, careful to listen and participate in their projects, poetic in transforming spaces and firm in communicating and pursuing consistently its aspirations.
The City module tells about a contested and fragmented city, often far from the rules of the formal city, made of bubbles and non-communicating fluxes, but also of houses and transforming neighborhoods, of condominiums in which new dwelling practices are experimented, communities capable to take hold of their destiny and transform their spaces, mestizo cultures that have changed the use and meanings of many public areas, of citizens who fight for a new right to the city.
The objective is to critically observe that urbanism that is unable to adapt to the continuous transformation of the city and to provide tools through national and international examples that experiment new approaches of intervention.
The Arts module provides tools and knowledge to tackle different forms of reading and intervention in public space. It is required to work directly with artists through workshops Street Art, Photography, Urban Gardens, Architectures in scale 1:1, Performance and works conducted together with art workshops of intercultural mediation. There are moments of exchange with international artists visiting MACRO MAXXI, MAAM and the foreign academies in Rome.
The Architecture module offers to young artists and architects a first opportunity to experiment in building a collective artifact in the heart of the city today. It takes place simultaneously in Rome, Talca and Montevideo and is structured through a first urban exploration, the realization of an architectural artifact in scale 1:1, a post-production and exhibition of the work.
The final phase of the course is dedicated to the development of a
thesis agreed with the tutor, choosing between two modes:
- a work to be carried out on site
-a research project that corresponds to a real European or International call, capable of supporting the student to build a professional framework in the direction of their cultural interests.
